I am an Integrated Studies major, and my three minors consists of Anthropology, Sustainability Studies, and Psychology. I am particularly interested in the natural resources area of this career cluster. I have considered being a wildlife biologist or working in some area of conservation/sustainability.
My anthropology minor allowed me to explore the various sub-fields, where I found an interest in biological anthropology. Attending a field school allowed me an opportunity to see what it was like to observe and collect data on wild animals in their natural habitat. Thanks to this minor, I know the basics of data collection and observation techniques, providing me a good foundation for a potential future career in this field.
My minor in sustainability studies has taught me a lot about the various environmental stressors occurring across the globe. As global awareness of environmental issues is increasing, there will be an increase in opportunities for careers in developing sustainable practices. Understanding different environmental stressors and how to alleviate my impact on the environment is very vital in pursuing a career in conservation, as well as in wildlife biology.
My minor in psychology has increased my understanding of human thoughts and behavior. The knowledge I’ve gained through this minor has grown my patience and empathy towards others, which can be useful in any career regarding co-workers as well as clients. I feel this minor has equipped me with the ability to work with all kinds of people and communicate in effective ways.
